Session Objectives

The major goal of this session is to provide students with a basic concept of Financial Information System (FNIS).  After completing this session, students should:

• Appreciate the role of FNIS in an organization.
• Be able to identify the functions of four subsystems of FNIS: Internal records system, Internal audit system, Financial intelligence system, and Financial decision support system.
• Be able to identify the sources of financial intelligence and be able to search for financial related information published on the Internet.
• Understand the decision support system tools: What-if analysis, Goal seeking analysis, Sensitivity table.
• Learn how to apply a spreadsheet software package, such as Microsoft Excel, to support financial decisions, for example, capital budgeting, cash flow analysis, etc.

Topic:	Financial Information System

During this session, the instructor plans to spend about half an hour talking about an overview of Financial Information System and its subsystems.  In the next 45 minutes, the students are allowed to surf the websites suggested above (and some other financial related websites) while the instructor leads the discussion about the information contained in those websites.  After a 15-minute break, it is the time to go with Excel hand-on exercises.  Only the students who finish eight exercises are allowed to go back home (hope you guys don't spend more than 90 minutes).
