Thammasat University's MIM five-person team won the highly coveted position of "The 1999 World Champion" for entrepreneurial business plan writing, presenting and defending. The MOOT CORP competition, described by Business Week magazine as "the Super Bowl of world business plan competitions", is held by the Graduate Business School, University of Texas at Austin.

The participating universities at the semi-finals comprised such highly-rated universities as Massachusettes Institute of Technology, London Business School, McGill University, Oxford University, Indiana University, Babson College, Carnegie Mellon University, Duke University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Northwestern University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of Georgia, University of Texas at Austin, and Thammasat University.

The winning project was named Fabrica Co., Ltd. which was positioned as a provider of a woven fabric samples from a revolutionary KS Loom. This completely unique weaving machines was invented by Dr. Sathit Phuttachaiyong from Rajamangkala Institute of Technology. It inspired the team to do research on it and base their business plan for the MOOT CORP competition on its superb production and business operation and marketing advantages. Dr. Sathit's loom lets buyers see the actual colors and the exact texture of the kind of fabric desired in less than one-tenth required time for making samples with other weaving machines. By expediting sales deals faster, it saves thousands of dollars in terms of time and material costs.

The winning team's members are Anan Wongmasa, Amornrat Putrakool, Chalermporn Siriwichai, Pavika Koomvutiworn and Viwat Supatham.

Professor Dr. Tasman Smith, Executive Chairman of the MIM Program, led the Thammasat team as faculty advisor and coach. He added the comments that though a specific entrepreneurship program has not been established yet at the MIM, the MIM project work has already incorporated the entrepreneurial business plan. Normally, the MIM students have to conduct an approximate 40-page business plan related to commercialization of a potential real world venture mostly from Thailand's research projects and innovations.

I remember working with the team for almost ten months, and found that teamwork was an important factor to complete the project work. I discovered that each member of the team had strong points and weak points in different areas, which we could match them smoothly. Each member devoted their times and efforts to the work, and finally, we succeed and become the winner in the Moot Corp World Business Plan Competition.

I wish to thank Mr. Rob Brough who gave us the worthy advice and guidance. Also, a special thank must go to Prof. Dr. Tasman Smith who was a great coach and has led us to the World Championship in the Moot Corp Competition. My thanks also go to my four partners, for everything we shared and initiated together.

Viwat Supatham
During the time we were busy with our project "Fabrica", we always think as if we were in the real executive meeting room of Fabrica Co., Ltd. We searched for data and information as our boss was sitting beside us and we spoke in the Fabrica's language in every discussion! The Moot Corp competition has proved the equation of Thinking + Acting + Presenting = Outstanding Result. I strongly believe that if we could synergize the power of thinking, acting and presenting, we could have the greatest impact on any expected result.

Amornrat Putrakool
With the support from the inventor, advisor, MIM director and staff, Faculty, and MIM-X classmates, we were able to show the 100% Thai business plan to the judges and audiences at the University of Texas, Austin. The knowledge from MIM classes was brought together into the Fabrica project, from marketing management to research, strategy, profitability, and etc. "Fabrica" has differed from other business plans at the Moot Corp competition because we did "marketing" both the plan and the presentation.

Beyond the prize and the pride, being at the world class competition gave me the great experiences and benefits. Beside competitor reactions, it also showed the significance of co-operation, preparation, teamwork, time limit, etc. Finally, it proofs that Thammasat Business School is one of the best.

Chalermporn Siriwichai
Being one of the Thammasat students who won the Moot Corp competition is unforgetable experience for the rest of my life. It comfirms my idea that we do not have to go abroad to get a better and higher education especially in the time of economic recession, as Thammasat is now on the first step to be one of the Top-Twenty universities in the world.

I still believe, by our strong management teams and brilliant Thai students, that finally Thammasat will be on the top of the list. Thus, come and join us to see how we produce the fabulous products for this high competitive global market.

Anan Wongmasa
Having joined the MIM Program for 2 years, I have found that my objective has been met. The Program has enriched me with marketing skills that I need for my present career.
Besides, as one member in the Moot Corp 1999 World Business Plan Competition winning team, I have found that it was such a great experience for me to be able to participate in the Mother of all business plan competitions. New friends, a challenging experience, success, and pride were what I gained which I will never forget.
